About COMME DES GARCONS PARFUMS
Comme des Garçons is a Japanese fashion label founded by the visionary designer Rei Kawakubo. The brand began in 1969, with the company officially established in 1971. The name, meaning “like the boys” in French, was inspired by the Françoise Hardy song “Tous les garçons et les filles.” Though French in name, Comme des Garçons is proudly rooted in Japanese creativity and avant-garde thinking.
Rei Kawakubo, who studied literature and fine arts at Keio University, is known for defying fashion conventions and redefining the aesthetics of beauty, form, and gender. Her influence has made Comme des Garçons a cult icon in the fashion world, celebrated for its conceptual designs and radical silhouettes. Kawakubo remains the creative force behind everything the brand produces, from fashion collections to collaborative art projects.
In 1994, Comme des Garçons expanded its creative universe by launching Comme des Garçons Parfums. Under the artistic direction of Christian Astuguevieille, the fragrance line mirrors Kawakubo’s disruptive vision. Rather than following traditional perfume structures, the brand experiments with unexpected ingredients like ink, smoke, tar, and synthetic notes, creating scents that are artistic, intellectual, and boldly unorthodox.
Fragrances such as Odeur 53, Wonderwood, Black, and collaborative projects with Monocle, Pharrell Williams, and industrial designers have cemented Comme des Garçons Parfums as one of the most innovative and respected names in niche perfumery.
